About the Farm

One crop, done right, since 2004 — field-grown Sylvester date palms in Vero Beach, Florida.

Our Story

A Farm Built Around One Palm

Sylvestris Tree Farms has been growing field-grown Phoenix Sylvestris Robusta date palms — the Sylvester palm, also known as the India date palm or silver date palm — in Vero Beach since 2004. We keep our focus narrow on purpose: one crop, grown well, for over two decades.

That focus shows up in the fields. Our inventory runs roughly 8,000 palms at any given time, ranging from 7’ overall height up to 9’ of clear trunk and beyond, with specimens reaching over 20’ tall. The Robusta variety we grow carries a larger caliper, more silver in the fronds, and a fuller head than standard sylvestris — the qualities landscape designers and arborists look for in a specimen palm.

How We Sell

Walk the Rows, Pick Your Palm

Most nurseries sell you a palm sight-unseen. We do it differently — you’re welcome to visit the farm, walk the rows, and pick out the exact palms for your project. Owner Jerry meets customers in the field and helps them choose the right palm for their landscape, whether that’s a single specimen for an entryway or a full order for a commercial install.

We grade our palms as specimen and “Florida Fancy,” and our buyers range from homeowners planting their first palm to respected nursery people, landscape designers, and arborists who return to our fields order after order.

What Sets Us Apart

Why Buyers Come to Sylvestris

Field-Grown

Every palm is grown in the ground on our Vero Beach farm, not containerized — giving it the root structure and trunk development buyers look for in a specimen tree.

Pick Your Own

Visit the farm and choose your own palm from the rows. What you see is what you get — no guessing from a photo or a phone description.

Trade-Trusted

Nursery professionals, landscape designers, and arborists source specimen-grade palms from our fields for their own projects and clients.

A Farm You Can Trust

Real Rows, Real Palms

Sylvester palms are cold-hardy below 20°F — unlike most palms grown in Florida — and they hold up well to disease, pests, and wind, with low maintenance once established. That resilience, combined with two decades in the same ground, is why our palms keep ending up in landscapes across the state.
